SINGING LESSON EXCERPTS
These clips were taken from various lessons and were edited to highlight some teaching points.

KAREN - HAVING A LOOSE JAW FOR HIGH NOTES

The usual problem of jaw tightening creates tension everywhere. A reminder to let the jaw down to keep it out of the way will free up tension for the high notes to come. A simple instruction but constant reminders are important. Sometimes, phychological persuasion to let the jaw drop to a suitable big opening is required as one is seldom accustomed to opening the mouth that way.

KAREN - THE ITALIAN 'SE'

The video is self explanatory.

INGG THONG - CORRECTING THE NASAL SOUND

One encounters the nasal sound when certain consonants or vowels are used. An awareness of this is helpful.

INGG THONG - HIGH NOTES REQUIRE MORE ENERGY

High notes require more bodily effort and preparation.

GRACE - MAINTAINING AIR PRESSURE FOR DIFFICULT NOTES

Often when one encounters high or difficult notes, one focuses too much on the difficulty rather than to keep the air pressure going. A reminder helps, as shown in the video.

GRACE - HITTING THE HIGH G
Grace hits the high G, with the appropriate air pressure effected by the diaphragm.

JACK - NEGOTIATING A BIG RANGE

A piece with big intervals or a wide range can cause one to deal with the high and low notes differently. This means that one uses different techniques throughout the piece and things would fall apart. Keeping the technique constant for all notes is the point here.

SAMANTHA - SINGING A COMPLETE PHRASE

This is often the one thing to correct in the first lesson. The video explains.

SAMANTHA - OVER-DOING VOWELS

Diction is a big topic in singing and performance. Over-enunciation can be done quite badly. Appropriate instruction is important in getting the diction without sacrificing voice technique.

SW - PLACEMENT OF THE VOICE

The video gives a demonstration and a short explanation of where the voice needs to be placed for best vocal health.
